918事变,1931年，日本帝国主义悍然发动了九·一八事变。蒋介石下令“绝对不抵抗”，东北军一枪未发，即让出沈阳城。日军得寸进尺，４个多月内，辽宁、吉林、黑龙江三省全部沦陷。日本强占东北后，中国人民就开始了武装反抗日本帝国主义侵略的斗争。但在1937年卢沟桥事变（七七事变）前，未能形成全国性的民族战争。

新京（长春）,1931年9月18日，日本发动九一八事变，翌日长春沦陷。1932年1月1日，建长春市。1932年3月，满洲国建国，宣布定都长春，改名为新京。同年8月，改为新京特别市，隶属满洲国国务院。（日本曾有迁都新京的打算）。

哈尔滨战役,1932年1月29日在哈尔滨，抗日的冯占海、李杜、丁超部队也严阵以待。1月31日，日军开始发动疯狂进攻，由于双方实力相差悬殊，抗日军与日军激战3天3夜，终因实力相差太大而败退，1932年2月5日，日军占领哈尔滨。
